Kids and adults training together on the mat at Fight For Us Jiu Jitsu, near Elkhorn

Elkhorn is about as close to our mat as any neighborhood gets without being Centennial Hills itself. Roughly five minutes down Tenaya or across on Ann Road and you are at the Rio Vista Shopping Center. For a family weighing whether they can realistically keep a martial arts commitment going four or five nights a week, that distance is the whole argument. Short drive, an early kids class, home in time for a normal evening.

Training here from Elkhorn

The Elkhorn corridor has filled in fast with families, and the weeknight structure here is designed for exactly that household: kids on the mat 6:00 to 7:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, adults 7:00 to 8:30pm Monday to Friday, both in the same building on the same trip. The one night that does not stack that way is Wednesday, when the 6:00pm slot is MMA rather than kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Saturday open mat, from 10:00am, is the low pressure version if weeknights are already full, and it is open to kids and adults together.

Who comes in from here: Elkhorn families, and adults who want something within five minutes of home so they actually keep going.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many nights a week should we plan on?

Two nights a week is the honest minimum for a child to actually progress rather than relearn the same thing every visit. Three is the sweet spot for most kids. Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, since Wednesday's 6:00pm slot is MMA, so you pick the nights that fit your week rather than being locked to a fixed schedule, and because Elkhorn is five minutes out, adding a third night is not the logistical decision it would be from across the valley.

Can I watch my child's class?

Yes. Parents are welcome to watch the kids class, and many do while they wait for the adult class to start. Watching that first class is a good idea anyway: you will see how the instruction is actually run, how kids are matched and supervised, and whether the room is somewhere you want your child spending four hours a week.
