Summerlin is not our closest neighborhood and we are not going to pretend otherwise: figure fifteen to twenty minutes north on the 215 to Ann Road, depending on where in Summerlin you start and what time you leave. The reason people make that drive is instruction. If you have trained before and you are looking specifically for a Robert Drysdale lineage black belt teaching a Team Zenith curriculum in a room that is not built purely around competition, that is a reason to come north.

Training here from Summerlin
The adult class is what usually brings Summerlin members up here, particularly people who have trained elsewhere and want a specific lineage and a mixed level room rather than a large commercial academy. Saturday open mat, which starts at 10:00am, is also worth the drive on a weekend, since there is no clock and no lesson plan and you can actually work the positions you are stuck on.
Who comes in from here: Summerlin adults who have trained before and are choosing by lineage and room culture rather than by distance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I drive north when Summerlin has gyms?
Often you should not, and we will say that plainly. If a Summerlin academy has instruction you trust and a room you like, the twenty minutes is not worth it four nights a week. Where the drive makes sense is if you are looking specifically for the Robert Drysdale lineage through Team Zenith, or you want a smaller, family oriented mat rather than a large commercial operation. Come take the two free classes and judge the room rather than taking our word for it.
Is Saturday open mat worth the drive on its own?
For a lot of Summerlin members it is the session they never miss even when weeknights are impossible. Open mat starts at 10:00am, kids and adults, and it is unstructured: no curriculum, no clock, no technique of the day. You drill the position you keep getting caught in and roll with people you would not get during the week. Visiting grapplers from other academies are welcome too, so call ahead and come train.
