Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Northwest Las Vegas
Confidence, discipline and a real self defense skill
Ages 3 to 12 · Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 6:00 to 7:00pm

Our kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 6:00 to 7:00pm for ages 3 to 12. Wednesday at 6:00pm is MMA, so kids Jiu Jitsu is four evenings a week. Jiu Jitsu suits kids because it is built on leverage and technique instead of size and strength, and because there are no kicks or punches involved. A child learns to control a bigger, stronger person and end a situation safely, which is a very different skill from learning to hit someone. Along the way they get the things parents actually came for: focus, discipline, a real sense of their own capability, and the experience of being uncomfortable and working through it anyway.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a kids class on Wednesday?
Wednesday at 6:00pm is an MMA class rather than Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, so kids Jiu Jitsu runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Call the gym on (702) 483-4207 and we will tell you who the Wednesday class is for and whether it suits your child.
What age can my child start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
We take kids from age 3 through 12 in the kids program. Three and four year olds are working mostly on coordination, listening, and getting comfortable moving on the mat, and the class is structured so they succeed at that. From about six up, the technical instruction gets real: positions, escapes, and controlled live training with partners their own size. Come watch a class or bring them in for their two free classes, and we will tell you honestly whether they are ready or whether you should wait a few months.
Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu safe for kids?
It is one of the safer martial arts precisely because there is no striking. Nobody is punching or kicking your child. Jiu Jitsu emphasizes the use of leverage and technique over the use of size and strength, so children learn to defend themselves by subduing an opponent in a safe way. Kids are matched by age and size, submissions are taught with control and released immediately, and instruction is supervised the entire class. Injuries in our room look like mat burn and sore muscles, not concussions.
Will Jiu Jitsu make my child aggressive?
It reliably does the opposite. Kids who know they can handle themselves stop needing to prove it. Jiu Jitsu also has no offensive striking to practice, so there is nothing being rehearsed that a child could take to a playground and hurt someone with. What they take home instead is the ability to control a situation without hurting anyone, and mat etiquette that starts with respecting your instructor and your training partners and checking your ego at the door.
What does my child need for their first class?
Comfortable athletic clothing: board shorts or workout shorts and an athletic shirt with no zippers or buttons. Sandals to get to the mat, because no shoes go on the mat itself. A water bottle. Nails trimmed. That is genuinely it. No gi is required to try, and we have clean loaner gis available. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early on the first night so you can meet the instructor and sign the waiver without rushing.
